Dr. Crystal Lawson is a nationally recognized expert in nursing and leadership development and the CEO & Founder of We Rise Up, LLC. Through innovative courses, consulting, and keynote speaking, she equips and inspires nurse leaders to rise into their full potential with confidence, clarity, and compassion.

Her doctoral work at the University of Tennessee became the foundation of her life’s mission. During her tenure with the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL), she partnered with experts nationwide to design and launch the Nurse Manager Transition to Practice Program, a groundbreaking initiative that demonstrated measurable growth across all AONL Nurse Leader Competency domains.

This work ignited her enduring passion to support and develop nurse managers, who she believes are the true core of healthcare—the bridge between strategy and bedside, people and process, mission and execution.

Meet Crystal

Renowned Nursing Leadership Expert

A National Voice for Nursing Leadership

Crystal’s leadership journey includes roles with Cedars-Sinai, Ascension, and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL)—giving her the rare ability to bridge executive insight with the realities of frontline leadership.

Innovator & Collaborator

Dr. Lawson is one of the creative minds behind the interactive curriculum and development tools used in the MD Anderson Wheeler Nursing Leadership Academy and a top-rated leadership development facilitator with the Advisory Board.

She is also the co-founder of RapidIRB, a nurse-founded platform that delivers low-cost, exempt IRB approval in minutes—allowing researchers to retain their intellectual property, reduce costs, and accelerate innovation. Built in partnership with Dr. Alysia Adams, RapidIRB exists to remove the financial and institutional barriers that slow research and silence frontline innovators.

In addition, Dr. Lawson is the co-host of the podcast Healthcare Rule Breakers, also created with Dr. Adams. The show spotlights nurses, leaders, and disruptors who are challenging outdated systems and redefining how we care for patients, communities, and each other—because we’re tired of the barriers that hold progress back.

In 2024, she was honored with the Richard Hader Visionary Leader Award, recognizing her innovation and national impact on nursing leadership.

Having walked in the shoes of those she now develops, Crystal continues to serve in practice to stay connected to the realities of today’s nurse leaders

—not what happened a decade ago.

She is deeply passionate about caring for those who care for others and believes that excellence in leadership is the foundation of a thriving, resilient workforce.

Known for her genuine, authentic, and real approach, Dr. Lawson has a rare ability to connect with any audience—from groups of 10 to auditoriums of 1,000—making every person feel seen, valued, and capable of growth.

Her presence blends candor, compassion, and clarity—reminding leaders that they are never alone on their journey and that leadership, at its core, is human work.

Rooted in Reality, Driven by Purpose

To elevate, equip, inspire, and empower nurse leaders to be their best—helping them rediscover both their why and their worth.
